There is something powerful about a table.
It is where stories are shared, laughter comes easily, and strangers begin to feel like family. On Wednesday nights at Elkin First, that is exactly where we begin.
Every Wednesday evening, we gather for what we call Dinner Church. Inspired by the Fresh Expressions movement, this is not a traditional worship service. It is something simpler and, in many ways, more profound.
We gather around a meal.
The evening begins with a brief word. Just a few minutes. A story, a moment of encouragement, something rooted in the life and way of Jesus. And then, we eat.
We linger.
We talk.
We listen.
We laugh.
This is worship in its most relational form. This is koinonia — a deep, authentic fellowship where grace is not just talked about, but experienced. If you walk in for the first time, you will be welcomed like you have always belonged here. You will be invited to sit, to eat, and to simply be. And the food matters too.
Each week, our cooks prepare a home-cooked, buffet-style meal that feels like stepping into the heart of Southern hospitality. The menu changes weekly, but you might find baked spaghetti, meatloaf, chicken and dumplings, and all the fixings that come with it. There is always more than enough, and there is always a place for you at the table.
● Visitors and non-members eat free
● Church members: $5 per person
Because here, the table always extends.
We also believe children belong in worship and are a valued part of our church family. For children who choose to remain in the sanctuary during the service, we provide busy bags filled with quiet activities, books, and sensory-friendly items to help them stay engaged and comfortable during worship.
Wednesday evenings are a favorite time of the week for many families. Children gather for a fun-filled midweek program that includes Bible lessons, music, movement, games, crafts, and special seasonal activities. It’s a wonderful chance for kids to recharge midweek, connect with friends, and grow in faith in a relaxed and energetic environment.
Families can also enjoy fellowship opportunities and meals throughout the year on Wednesday nights, making it a special time for all ages to gather together.
After dinner, the invitation continues.
At 6:30 PM, our Wednesday night ministries begin. There is no pressure to stay, but many choose to take a next step into deeper connection, learning, and growth. There is something for everyone:
You do not have to believe everything we believe. You do not have to have your life figured out. You do not even have to stay for everything.
Just come.
Come eat.
Come meet people.
Come experience a community where grace meets real life.
All are welcome, no matter where you are in your faith.
And there is always a seat waiting for you.
