We are located at
304 Hawthorne Rd.
Elkin, NC 28621
Our worship blends time-honored hymns and organ music with a genuine welcome for children and families to be fully themselves, no polish required.
We worship at 9am and 10:55am. We suggest arriving ten minutes early so you have time to settle in, say hello to a greeter, and get the kids a worship packet before things begin.
Wear whatever feels like you, suits and ties, jeans and t-shirts, and everything in between are all welcome here."
Kaury grew up a lifelong United Methodist in the Texas panhandle, which means he can talk theology and West Texas cattle and tumbleweeds in the same breath. Along the way, life took him and his wife to a house church they planted in Kentucky during seminary, to mission work in 33 countries (South Korea the longest stretch), and eventually to Elkin, a town he's fallen hard for, along with pretty much all of North Carolina.
He holds degrees from Wayland Baptist University, Asbury Theological Seminary, and a Doctor of Ministry from Duke, but don't let that intimidate you. He's just as likely to talk with you about Duke basketball as he is about Barth or Wesley. When he's not in the pulpit, you'll probably find him hiking, out on the river, or somewhere in the mountains that surround Elkin, or roasting his own coffee (he's a bit of a fanatic about it).
He's also always got one eye on the next place to travel. He and his wife have one son, and together they've made Elkin First United Methodist Church home.
If you see him around before or after worship, say hello. He'd genuinely love to meet you.
Every Wednesday evening, we gather around a table, not a program. This is Dinner Church: a simple, home cooked ...
